The tragedy in Haiti is helping us all the realize just how fortunate we are. I was brought to tears last night watching Robin Roberts’ report on Nightline. A family from Iowa was concerned their 4-year-old adopted daughter, who is just awaiting her passport to the US, hadn’t survived. Watch the footage here. While she did survive, not all children did. Nor did all parents. Or all loved ones.
Times like these make you appreciate your family more than ever. But it also makes you want to reach out and help, however you can.
So here’s what we’re doing, and I’m hoping you can join me.
In honor of families who are struggling, searching and hoping, we are cancelling our sitter and filling what would have been a fun date night tonight with hugs, cuddles and family time. I’m planning a pizza picnic on our basement floor followed by hours of laughter. I’m sending this week’s sitter money to MAZON.
There are so many wonderful places to send relief money. I selected MAZON because they have a long-standing dedication to helping Haiti. Their organization will continue to help Haiti rebuild after the emergency crisis teams leave by continuing to provide farming and nutrition programs in the future. Mazon will help the future of Haiti, thereby helping the families and children of future Haiti.
From MAZON:
MAZON has a long-standing dedication to health services and agricultural development in Haiti. Already, one of our long-time partners is on its way with a team of first responders. Your donation will provide lifesaving medical care and emergency food relief.
Looking ahead, we pledge to rebuild farming and nutrition programs and keep Haitians healthy after emergency teams have left. This long-term strategy has worked in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and it will work in Haiti.
We will continue to monitor events on the ground, and post updates on MAZON.org as more information comes in.
MAZON remains committed to healing & feeding the Haitian people. Help us make that a reality.
Donate at: http://mazon.org/go/helphaiti. Haiti needs our help NOW.

I have donated money for Haiti but I don’t think taking money from your babysitter’s pocket is a good way to do it.
