During a rare, quiet moment yesterday, I stumbled this post. Taking the 90 seconds to read it will be a life-changing moment. That I can promise. So. Go. Leave Just-Precious (come back, though!) and read it. Please. You’ll be brought to tears, but they’re some of the most peaceful tears you’ve had in a long time.
Now that you’re back, I’m going to share my intended drive. Should I ever hire a driver to take me around one last time, I’d like to slow down and quietly look at the following (though, really, I hope to have my kids and the Huz with me):
- the home of my youth. I may even get out and walk around
- the home of my preschool years. I don’t have all the memories of this home that I do of my youth, but its a place that touched me
- Where the Huz and I met
- Our breakfast spot that morning (we ate breakfast after the bar closed because we wanted to keep talking. It was a 24 hour diner. Get your head out of the gutter. I didn’t shack-up with him that night first!)
- Our first date location
- My elementary school
- The school where I taught and he proposed
- The hospital where my kids were born
- The hospital where I visited 2 grandparents before they died
- Their houses
- My wedding location
- My best friend in elementary school’s house
Where would you go?

OMG. What a post. You called it. I’m in total tears. Is that blog always so good? How did you find it? I’d love to revisit all the 2 different places I lived in my youth -and the swim club I spent the lazy days of summer at every year until I was a teen and had to work. all those places in my twenties before getting married – college dorms, college house, apartments, townhome, etc. And I’d especially love to revisit my wedding day – however, I think I could do without seeing the hospital where my kids were born – too much drama to recall! Instead, I’d wish I could recapture the moments of walking with them in a stroller somewhere. I already am missing that and they are only 2 and 4! Great post. Really really great.

I forgot one, and I’m really surprised I did. I’d love to take a very long drive up to Maine where I spent so many summers (and still do.) I’d want to drive through the mountains, smell the “fresh Maine air”, stand on the hilltop overlooking the lake and bunkline, and then drive over to our cabin (and hourish away) and look out at the sailboats slowly sailing.
C, I stumbled the post. But now I’m subbed to the blog. Such peace in that one.
