Okay I know I only have one baby but I would not consider myself "that mom" - between my baby, my blog and my full time job I barely had time to wash my hair this week let alone any laundry.

I made a packed with myself that I wasn't going to allow my daughter to grow up with the poor eating habits (and hangups) I did. Step one in this packed was to make her baby food using the best ingredients I could find.

Basically my husband and I spend 2-3 hours every weekend buying and cooking up fresh local organic fruits and veggies. We freeze it in cubes and pull from it during the course of the week. It has actually turned into a great way for the 3 of us (mom, dad, and baby) to bond as a family.

I also use the baby food to help supplement my diet as well. I know this sounds insane but adding a little homemade baby food to your sandwich, instead of mayo is a great way to cut calories and get your daily fruits and veggies.

Several moms in my neighborhood have started a baby food exchange and I think this idea is awesome. It is a great way to be able to experiment with new fruits and veggies!

I also use "Top 100 Baby Purees: 100 Quick and Easy Meals for a Healthy and Happy Baby" to get ideas along with a few other books and web sites.

Ha ha! I love that with your first you "had time to fill" and made your own baby food from scratch! I had a similar situation and made everything on my own until we started traveling and moving, then turned to Earth's Best and Happy Baby to fill in the gaps. . .even then I was defending my organic baby food to others. ;-)

I knew that we had something else in common that made us instant Twitter friends! I was that mom too and tried to be with Captain Computer although he never ate baby food! My copy of First Meals sat sadly on the shelf when he went straight from milk to solids! Good for you for giving it a try again but don't kill yourself! And thanks for the reminder at the end of the post. It is so easy to forget about allergies when introducing foods! With tons of allergies in my husband's side of the family, we had to be so careful!

Every little bit helps! To make it easier on yourself make a patch once a month so you don't have to do it every night. One thing I changed after my second was instead of using a food processor I use a immersion blender, Much easier clean up! Good Luck!!!
