This Staycation Thing So Doesn’t Work for an At-Home Mom

by Julie Meyers Pron on August 24, 2010 · 2 comments

I get the appeal of a staycation. Really. Its all about exploring your surroundings while you ‘cation at home. But, as a stay-at-home-mom over the summer? That’s not too appealing. And that’s because there is nothing different from that and your every other day.

So… top 10 reasons that my Staycation is nothing short of just another day:

  1. cleaning the kitchen floors after the kids crumb all over them
  2. laundry
  3. quick drives to local places… like the zoo
  4. too close to work
  5. too close to computer
  6. too close to wii
  7. rainy day? how about the mall? or the movies? or anything else we always do on a rainy day?
  8. hard to say no to a playdate during naptime
  9. I’d go to the gym even if I were away on vacation, and now I’m at my same-old-gym
  10. cooking

So, fellow stay-at-home-moms, my advice? Save money and take a VAcation instead. Because the staycation is just another day for me.

What about you? Did you try a staycation? What’s your opinion on the latest anti-travel trend?

I absolutely agree with you–staying at home instead of going away is not fun! This summer we went on a few long-weekend vacations to places that were within driving distance–Lancaster, Baltimore, and Deal Island (on the MD Eastern shore.) All were lots of fun, but I would really love to jet down to a Florida beach for a week or two and stay in a great hotel. Or Hawaii. Or Paris. Maybe next year!

Except for the work part (I did too much) I had just the opposite experience. I loved it because my husband took over the sweeping of crumbs and doing of dishes. It helps that we live at the beach so our staycation was kind of “stacked” -if you will.:)
