Pitching, Proposing & Working with Brands

Pretty sure you already know this about me: I love being on stage. Love it. I love attention. So when I showed this picture of Kelly Whalen and me presenting "Pitch & Propose: Working with Brands" to my kids I exclaimed "look! I was on stage!" and they were all "grrrrreaaaat" because they just didn't care. So, now I'm sharing with you "look! I was on stage!" Except it wasn't really a stage, but a table at the front of a bunch of other tables where Kelly and I presented Pitching, Proposing … [Read more...]

During and after the conference: Make notes on your business cards

With conference season about to begin (it's a long one... lasts about 10 months, so get ready!) many business people come home from business trips with a messy collection of business cards. In the past, I would dump the cards into a container and toss them on my desk, waiting to, someday, be organized. However, past experience showed that I usually tossed those cards a few months later because I didn't remember one connection from another. Last year, I attempted to organize my cards during the … [Read more...]

Taking your Mom Blog to the next level through Social Media Marketing

Every now and again I have friends ask me how I got started in blogging. How they can "live the life" we bloggers live. They want to "pick my brain." I know a lot of bloggers are shaking their heads right now. First suggestion: don't use that phrase when you're talking to a blogger. We don't really like to have our brains picked. Brains are a vital part of us and picking brains is just gross. Many of those friends have already created their blog (if you haven't, read Mom Blogging: How do I … [Read more...]

Acura #RDXContest Twitter Party (and #Giveaway)

Essential luxuries: I speak of them often. I call it me time: spa visits, quiet times reading my kindle, my love need for coffee, and luxurious vacations in top-notch locations, my kids' swingset (the best Mothers' Day present ever). Spoiled? hmmm. I'd rather say it's deserving. But Acura says these things are essential. They're things we need to get through our everydays, the luxuries we depend on. What are your essential luxuries? No. Really. Give it a minute and think about those "luxuries" … [Read more...]

#Ashamed Twitter Party and Petition For Children in Georgia

Bullying isn't nice. Kids being picked on for who they are? I know... I'm preaching to the choir. It's pretty unlikely that a bully isn't reading this post, right? But maybe not. Perhaps some really clever advertising creators are reading this. And they don't realize that, in doing good to help their community, they started bullying. Because, sometimes, the most creative, shocking campaigns are mean without meaning to be. Not sure what I'm referring to? Check out the billboard campaign running … [Read more...]

What item has changed your life?

Inspired by the March 2012 (yes, March 2012, that's not a typo) issue of ShopSmart magazine, I asked colleagues what one item has changed their life, and why. Figuring this would be a great opportunity to share some fabulous new products that make differences to moms' lives, I was surprised at some of the depth, as some of these Moms shared things in their lives, not just tangible items. The only rule: Because I expected 90% of these women to say the iPhone, I took that option off the table. … [Read more...]
