Peddler's Village: through the years

Jo-Lynne's kids welcome us   #Giveaway #Win a free visit to Giggleberry Fair at #PeddlersVillage     Its been a long time since I went to Peddler's Village. When I was younger, and living in Montgomery County, it was such a thrill. About two or three times a year, our neighbor would pile us into the car and we'd take a day trip (that whopping 40 minute drive was so far. I'll never forget the time my sister had an accident... but I digress.) The best part about the visit when we were … [Read more...]

Traveling without children: I survived

Last week, I posted about my fear of traveling without my children. I'm grateful for all of the feedback, advice and virtual hugs. Unfortunately, none of it worked, but I don't think any of the respondents actually expected it to. The night before I left for the Yahoo! Motherboard Summit, I cried. I cried to myself. I cried to my husband. I picked up the phone about 7 times, ready to apologize for not being able to come. My stress affected my husband. He finally told me he was offended by my … [Read more...]

Family Day-trip to Boothbay Harbor, Maine

Boothbay Harbor is one of my favorite places to visit in Maine. The atmosphere as a real "down east" harbor is inviting, as are the many shops aligning the streets. I've probably been there about 25 times, at least. This year we parked on the main street side (at $5 per day) and went directly to the Puffin Cruise, something I've never done before. While I couldn't get a good picture of the puffins, I did take this video of the harbor. The guides, entertaining, interactive and informative. … [Read more...]

Road trip question: Hand Dryers or Paper Towels?

Image via Wikipedia So, while on my roadtrip home from Maine yesterday, I had an interesting conversation in the McDonalds' restroom. (It was so busy with others driving south that there was plenty of time to engage. Really, had I not been chatting, I probably would have been tweeting.)   See, McDonalds, as well as all of the rest-stops where we stopped, had hand dryers, not paper towels. Now, there's plenty to debate here, because neither are ideal for the Earth (one uses trees and the … [Read more...]

I'm nervous about returning to Mexico, so Role Mommy fills us in on Safe Travels to Mexico

A few years ago, the huz and I took a fabulous couples-only trip to Mexico. It remains one of my favorite trips of all time, beating out our honeymoon (and he agrees, so there's no insult.) Last year, we brought the family and the kids ask to go back there again, just as often as they ask for us to return to Disney. But with all the rumors about Mexico not being safe, I worry about future trips. So when Beth Feldman, aka Rolemommy, offered this guest post, I was excited to post it as I am to … [Read more...]

Yes, You CAN get a Sitter at Disney World

You would not believe how many people's mouth's have dropped--to the ground--when I share that we hired a sitter in Disney. So many people think of a vacation to Disney as a family-thing that they never consider getting out and relaxing. Please, take it from me, if you are going to spend so much on a vacation to Disney World, you deserve a little four hour break (or more) to celebrate your family, and to celebrate all the planning that went into your fabulous vacation. So, before you go, plan a … [Read more...]
