Blogging it forward: Great gifts for 6 month olds

snuggle pod

I’m very, very grateful. This weekend we received a very generous check from my Grandmother, specifically requesting that we spend $xx on each child in gifts this holiday. With her permission, I’m saving about half of that so that they can select gifts on our upcoming trip to Disney. But because I want to make sure that they open something under the tree, I went back to their amazon lists and selected a gift for Big and a gift for Middle that hadn’t yet been purchased. (Incase you’re just so curious, Big will receive a wooden chess board and Middle is getting Battat’s Dalmation Vet Kit.) But Little doesn’t need much, much less want anything. Still, wanting for her to open something under the tree, I ran a google search for 6 month old present.

Rather than reinventing the wheel, here’s an awesome list of gifts for 6 month t0 1 year olds. In the end, I decided on gifting Manhattan Toy’s Snuggle Pod, though the decision was tough. It came down to the Snuggle Pod, Infantino Penguin Bowling, and the Melissa & Doug Bug Jug. Finally decided on the Snuggle Pod because I could use my Amazon Prime. It does make a difference.

Disclosure: Nothing was given to me for this post. Other than a generous gift from my grandmother. Thanks Nani!

Beautiful Baubles

We love Mommy bracelets. They’re a guaranteed success in the gifting world: what mom wouldn’t adore receiving a bracelet with her little loved one’s name(s), right?

After searching… and searching more, we fell head over wrists for Barefoot in the Park by Mackenzie Miller, available at Precious Personalities. The bright, happy beads bring sunshine and summer to mom’s arm.

Available as shown, with 1 strand as a Happy Bracelet or more strands upon request (we’ve seen it made with 3 names as well as with 2 names and an extra strand in between that doesn’t have a name), put some fun on Mommy’s wrist.

Dads, this is a (hint hint) excellent push present.

We’re diehard baseball fans around here. Little league all the way through MLB (Go Phillies!) So when we find baseball themed baby gifts, they’re nearly certain to make our list of favorites.

This week, Precious Personalities introduced a Personalized Bat and Baseball Set. The pair triples with a personalized baseball glove or baseball baby shoes. And alone, you’re scoring more than a double with this duo. Not just for a baby, they are also sold as big sibling gifts, client gifts and promotional items.

The bat can be personalized with up to 3 lines of text. The ball with 2 lines. Most are going simple with the baby’s name and birthdate. A few of our favorite messages for the 3rd line on the bat include:

  • Its a great day for a ball game!
  • Play ball!
  • The ball stops here!

Others are opting for name and birthdate on the ball and/or glove, and a quote or message on the bat. A few to inspire:

  • You gotta be a man to play baseball for a living, but you gotta have a lot of little boy in you, too. Roy Campanella
  • Do you know what we get to do today Brooks [insert child's name here]? We get to play baseball. Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) in The Rookie (2002)
  • Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too. Greg, age 8
  • Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off… the right pitch will come, but when it does, be prepared to run the bases.  Rick Maksian

And one to include in the gift message:

  • Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher’s mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again. ~Jimmy Piersal, on how to diaper a baby, 1968
