BumpMonth: That moment when I went "Wow! I AM a mom!"

I don't think there was a "Wow!" moment for me. Not one moment, anyway. I look back now at pictures of me on the phone with the doctor, hearing the test came back positive. Was that my moment? Was it when, a few weeks later, my husband and I met with the doctor and agreed that we would do every test possible to be sure we were prepared for our baby? Was it the first time I held Big in my arms? Or when I learned to change a diaper? Maybe when I gave him a bath? Perhaps my "Wow! I AM a mom!" … [Read more...]

How a regular mom of 3 gets organized

UPDATE! 35% Off all momAgenda Desktops at momAgenda.com! Monday, I posted that my calendar is back up on my fridge and was reminded, in a few emails and tweets, that not everyone knows my organization system. Its the new year. Raise your hand if "getting organized" is on your resolution list. It was certainly one of my goals a few years ago. It took a while, but I now have a system that works. Its not fail-free. No plan is. And because we all have different styles and schedules, no one can … [Read more...]

Should schools and PTOs be encouraging children to eat fast food?

Image by Downing Street via Flickr Last week, I heard of an elementary school fundraiser entitled McTeachers. It seemed that teachers would be working the registers at a local McDonald's and "a percentage of all sales" would go directly to the school. (Note the word "a", and not a number. We have no idea if this was 50% or .25%). In a time when Jamie Oliver is hosting a top television show teaching families to eat healthy and changing our schools to serve non-processed foods, and schools and … [Read more...]

Back to School? Its Time to Fill the Backpack! (Giveaway News Coming Soon!)

A few weeks ago, Courtney of Detroit Mommies and Kelly from The Centisble Life decided to do a promotion for Back to School. Well, Andrea has this magical thing about her and suddenly, 8 fantastic bloggers joined together in a Skype Room, Volunteer Spot came on board as a co-host, and ClassWish.org was decided to be our … [Read more...]

Teachers: Take Advantage of Your Parent Volunteers

Image by bx1935 via Flickr I’m a parent volunteer. A volunteer mom. A PTOer. PTA member. Whatever your school calls the women in the halls that don’t get paid, that’s me. Like so many other parent volunteers, I do this out of love for my children, the school that I’ve chosen for them, and for their future.  A former teacher, I recognize that many teachers don’t appreciate me. I remember my across-the-hall coworker rolling her eyes behind 2 of my role model moms commenting, too … [Read more...]

Chutes and Ladders

I remember pulling out of my high school parking lot blasting the GoGo's Vacation. Finals were over and summer had begun. A time for play. Sprinklers, swimming pools, popsicles and country fairs. Road trips, camp, beaches and baseball games. School? Toss those notebooks in the trash. Forget everything we learned. Right? Well, not really. Sure, its nice as a tween or teen to believe there's no schooling in summer, but in reality, schooling exists throughout one's life. While giving tours of my … [Read more...]
