Teachers: it takes a village and you *must* communicate

It's really hard to be a teacher and a parent. It's like a curse because it's so easy to judge and think "I could do this so much better." I struggled with this all last year, when Big was in first grade. I posted very little of my frustrations. And I plan to post very little this year as well. But there's one thing I can't not post:  the value of communication. From the first day of my teacher training, we learned about the importance of working with the parents. We learned that … [Read more...]

Are all adults this skilled at taking advantage of children?

It happens one morning each summer. One of the kids wakes us early on a Saturday, dressed, pepped and ready: It's Neighborhood Garage Sale Day! This year, it was Middle who was prepared. He had collected old toys and clothing in boxes and on Friday night placed them all by the door. We put him to bed that night, hoping he'd oversleep or forget. But forget he didn't, and he was ready to sell about 2 hours before the official beginning to Neighborhood Garage Sale Day. Big joined in. He … [Read more...]

I am so impressed: Dara's a natural, honest, beautiful woman and a real mom who is absolutely dedicated to her daughter, her health, and sharing with others. Her three pillars in life: sleep, eating and exercise, help her to live a balanced, healthy … [Read more...]

Monday, I posted that my calendar is back up on my fridge and was reminded, in a few emails and tweets, that not everyone knows my organization system. Its the new year. Week of a million giveaways!

In our family we have what we call the Janie-filter. Janie is for my very sweet mom who uses artist's license to elaborate her stories. According to my husband, the Janie-filter has trickled down. To me. Therefore, please filter this title. This is not the week of a million giveaways. Especially because its already Tuesday. However, it is the half week of a lot of giveaways. Here's what's coming: Tomorrow morning, I'll post a giveaway for a Backyard Safari Outfitters* Kit. Tomorrow … [Read more...]
